Meet Rachel
Born and raised in New Orleans, Rachel Osborn Stream is deeply rooted in the city’s historic preservation and arts communities. Her work is informed by a lifelong immersion in New Orleans’ architectural legacy and by years of professional practice working within some of its most cherished historic homes.
An artist from an early age, Rachel’s creative instincts were shaped through extensive exploration across disciplines including drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture. This foundation cultivated a refined visual language and a disciplined eye—one grounded in proportion, materiality, and restraint.
Rachel’s professional path combines formal design education with decades of hands-on craftsmanship. After graduating from Ursuline Academy, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Loyola University, developing a sophisticated understanding of composition and visual balance. She later pursued formal interior design studies at the New York School of Interior Design, further refining her expertise in spatial planning, materiality, and high-end residential interiors. Alongside her academic training, she gained early, practical experience in historic materials through her family’s painting business, learning firsthand the care and responsibility required when working on legacy architecture.
At seventeen, Rachel began refinishing doors—work that evolved into the founding of Knot & Wood, a refinishing business that would become widely known and respected within New Orleans’ preservation, design, and restoration circles. Over the course of fifteen years, Rachel restored thousands of doors in historic residences throughout the city, working closely with homeowners, architects, contractors, and preservation-minded clients. Knot & Wood established her reputation for precision, integrity, and a deep respect for original materials, placing her firmly within the city’s historic preservation and art communities.
Through Knot & Wood, Rachel became intimately connected to New Orleans’ historic fabric—developing an expert understanding of aged wood, traditional finishes, and preservation-first decision making. This work reinforced a philosophy of careful editing over replacement, and of honoring architectural intent while allowing spaces to evolve thoughtfully.
Rachel Osborn Interiors represents the natural extension of this established practice. With a reputation built on craftsmanship, artistic fluency, and historic sensitivity, Rachel now applies her expertise to complete interiors. Her work reflects a belief that preservation and contemporary living are not opposing forces, but complementary ones when guided by experience, clarity, and restraint.
Grounded in New Orleans and shaped by decades of trust within its preservation and art communities, Rachel Osborn Interiors creates spaces that balance past and present with confidence—quietly elegant, deeply personal, and designed to endure.
